Test Your Car Maintenance Knowledge With Our Car Care Quiz!

posted on

Owning a car can be confusing, and with the amount of car owners on the road, it is no secret that there are a lot of car maintenance myths floating around. Test your knowledge of car care with our car maintenance quiz.

Q: How long can brakes last?

A: It depends on the make and model of your car, but brakes can last anywhere from 25,000 to 50,000 miles. This is also determined with your driving habits in mind, as those who stop-and-go drive more frequently will have to change their brakes more than those who drive mostly on the highway without traffic.

Q: Is changing the oil and filter necessary?

A: Yes. Changing these features will help the engine last longer. Changing the oil regularly -- experts recommend doing so once every 3,000 miles -- will help your engine run smoother and will decrease the chances you will have to service your vehicle.

Q: What about the air filter? If it looks clean, it must be, right?

A: No. An air filter's job is to collect dirt and debris, and sometimes what it collects is too small to see with the naked eye. Once the air filter gets clogged, it can be hard for the engine to breathe, causing congestion.

Myth: Putting premium gas in my car is the best way to get a premium performance.

A: False! Unless your engine is made to take advantage of the extra octane in premium fuel, then there is no point in paying extra. Check your owner's manual to determine what fuel is the best for your car.

Myth: Tire rotation is unnecessary.

A: False! You should rotate your tires once every 7,500 miles in order to get optimum performance out of your car. In addition, experts recommend checking the alignment of your tires every 6,000 miles.

Myth: I only have to change a tire when it becomes damaged.

A: False! Generally, you need new tires around every 10,000 miles depending on the amount of driving you do per year. New car tires will ensure the safety of your vehicle and will make the drive even smoother!
